OUR RATING

According to 2025 research from Recycle Your Electricals, around two thirds of UK adults now own an air-fryer. It’s not hard to see why: they’re easier to use than ovens, cook more quickly, use less oil, and are cheaper to both buy and run.

But while there’s a seemingly infinite choice of double, side-by-side and stacked air fryers, there’s far fewer designed to cook that most important of food group fundamentals… the pizza. Which is where, rather obviously, the Tefal Easy Fry Pizza Air Fryer comes in.

Design

Tefal’s Easy Fry Pizza Air Fryer is able to accommodate anything up to a 27cm/11in diameter pizza, the signature claim being that it can cook a fresh one in six minutes, or a frozen one in a scarcely longer 8-10 minutes. If you get through a lot of pizza, then this could save you a few quid, saving you having to fire up a larger oven each time you need a fix.

Inside there are two heating elements, one located above the single, 6cm high drawer, the other below. The maximum capacity is 4.5 L, capacious enough to swallow up 1kg of chips or 30 chicken wings. Interestingly, there’s no separate crisper plate, as you’d usually find with most other air fryers, the square-ish tray just being gently ridged.

Given its raison d’etre, however, it comes as no surprise to discover that the Easy Fry takes up a pizza-box shaped space on a standard kitchen worktop, but it’s quite short, so is much less imposing than a taller mini oven. Weighing 4.9kg, it’s way easier to move around, too; I could easily see this finding a place in a motorhome or caravan, as well as in a kitchen.

But one thing you will need to think about the distance to your nearest mains socket. The captive, circa 75cm cable, which is located at the rear centre of the air fryer,  isn’t especially short, insofar as such kitchen appliances go. But I did find myself thinking that another 25cm would have made positioning much easier.

At the top of the Tefal there’s a digital touchscreen with all the required time/temperature setting controls. Handily, you also get 10 preset programs, including the two aforementioned ones for fresh/frozen pizza. The pizza settings work when directly pressed, but oddly the others don’t; you have to manually cycle through them one by one, pressing the ‘Chef’s hat’ icon at the bottom left.

Last but not least, there’s a button to switch on an internal light behind the viewing window, allowing you see how well what’s being cooked is coming along.

Performance

An 8in Crosta Mollica Stromboli is my current frozen pizza ‘go to’, so that was the first pie to find its way into the tray, along with a serving of Aldi Mini Hash Brown bites. I cooked both for around 9 minutes at 200ºC as the Tefal’s standard 220ºC frozen pizza preset setting was going to be a bit too high for this particular pie/bites combo. Both the pizza and hash browns emerged very well cooked, with no evidence of hot-spotting.

Next I tried cooking a fresh margherita pizza, using a Pizza Express pre-rolled dough, loaded with some mozzarella and extra pepperoni. Using the fresh pizza ‘6 minute’ preset (which operates at the same temperature as the frozen pizza setting), the result was nicely browned, but with a fractionally softer base than I hoped for. It was properly cooked through, however, and perfectly edible, at least if the speed it got guzzled at is any guide.

For an altogether tougher test, I then unwrapped a couple of Tesco Finest Pork Loin Saltimbocca. These little slabs of porcine joy are hand-wrapped in prosciutto and topped with sage butter.

While they were beautifully cooked in the Easy Fry, the knobs of butter sat a bit too close to the upper heating element. The result? Clouds of smoke filling the kitchen as cooking got underway. My sincere advice is to think about the height of what’s being cooled, as well as well as the Easy Fry’s proximity to a nearby extractor fan!

Over the course of the next couple of weeks the Tefal was tasked with more pizzas (primarily frozen), cheese on toast, chicken nuggets, French fries, as well as vegetables, all of which it tackled with zero drama. Reheating cooked snacks at 160ºC also proved a cinch, while noise levels, whatever you were cooking, were tolerably low.

Criticisms? Just a couple. That 6cm high tray does put a limit on what you can cook in it – thighs and drumsticks are fine, but a small chicken obviously won’t fit. And I also found that the illuminated viewing window got coated in grease pretty quickly, obscuring what was already a pretty restricted view.

VERDICT

If you love pizza, then this is the ideal air fryer for you; the one-touch, fresh/frozen pizza presets work exactly as advertised. Happily, the Easy Fry’s talents stretch to cooking far more than that. So long as you’re careful not to use it to cook overly fatty, or relatively ‘tall’ food, this relatively compact, bargain-priced air fryer absolutely deserves a place in your kitchen.
